One of the latest techniques used to clean up diesel emissions is known as selective catalytic reduction (SCR). AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid used in vehicles with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce harmful gases being released into the atmosphere. AdBlue is a 32,5 % solution of high-purity, synthetically manufactured urea in de-mineralized water. It is a safe-to-use fluid.
AdBlue, is a registered trademark owned by the German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA), which ensures standards are maintained. IFFCO has obtained license from VDA to used AdBlue Trademark. AdBlue is also referred to as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). The fluid is stored in a tank in the car, but unlike petrol or diesel it is not injected into the engine; instead it is fed into part of the vehicle’s exhaust. A chemical reaction converts the harmful NOx exhaust gases into harmless nitrogen and water.
Inside the SCR catalytic converter, the nitrogen oxides (NOX) are converted into harmless steam and nitrogen with the aid of the injected urea solution AdBlue. This reduces the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOX) emitted by up to 90 %. SCR technology thus enables a vehicle to meet the Bharat 6 standard.
